Ayr, on the west coast of Scotland, is home to both flat turf and jumps racing across the year, hosting 34 race days. The flat season runs from late April to October and the highlight is the Ayr Gold Cup, a 6f sprint handicap in September. The jumps season runs from the end of October through to the two-day Scottish Grand National meeting in April, normally a week after the Grand National at Aintree. Only one horse, Red Rum, has ever won the two races in the same season. Ayr is Scotland's only Grade 1 track.
